Search "Toyota V8" from Bangladesh and you will find a lot of content written for Australia, the UK and America — Soarers, Chasers, Celsiors, 1UZ swaps, the whole JDM catalogue. Almost none of it applies here.
Bangladesh has two rules that quietly delete about ninety percent of that list before you even look at price: a five-year age limit on reconditioned imports, and right-hand drive only. Then a third rule deletes most of what survives — the supplementary duty band above 3000cc.
So the honest version of this article is short. Here is what you can actually bring in, what it genuinely costs at Chattogram, and who it makes sense for.
The Two Rules That Decide Everything
The five-year rule. Reconditioned vehicles imported into Bangladesh must be no more than five years old from the year of manufacture. In 2026, that means a build year of 2022 or newer. Not 2021. Not "close enough" — Chattogram Customs works from the chassis number and the export certificate, and a 2021 build will be rejected or reassessed at a punishing rate.
Right-hand drive only. Bangladesh does not permit left-hand-drive private car imports. This single rule removes every American-market Toyota V8 from consideration: the Tundra, the Sequoia, the Lexus GX 460, and the Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance were all built for left-hand-drive markets. They are excellent V8s. You cannot register them here.
Put those two filters together and the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series — the 4.6-litre and 5.7-litre V8 that most people picture when they think "Toyota V8" — falls out too. Production ended in 2021. As of 2026, it is outside the window. That situation is permanent, and it is worth understanding before you start hunting: the 200 Series will never be legally importable as a reconditioned vehicle again.
The Duty Band Nobody Warns You About
Bangladesh taxes cars on engine capacity, and the curve is steep rather than gradual. Supplementary Duty on private cars above 3000cc sits at 500 percent, having been raised from 350 percent in FY2023. Every Toyota and Lexus V8 is between 4.5 and 5.7 litres, which puts all of them in the top band without exception.
Here is roughly how the cascade builds on top of your CIF value:
| Component | Rate | Applied to |
| Customs Duty (CD) | 25% | CIF value |
| Regulatory Duty (RD) | ~3% | CIF value |
| Supplementary Duty (SD) | 500% | CIF + CD + RD |
| VAT | 15% | CIF + CD + RD + SD |
| Advance Income Tax (AIT) | ~5% | CIF value |
| Advance Trade VAT (ATV) | ~5% | Assessed value |
| Total tax incidence | ~800%+ of CIF | — |
Rates are indicative for the above-4000cc private car band and change with each Finance Act. Confirm current figures against the NBR budget documents or a licensed C&F agent before you commit funds.
One useful piece of news: the FY2026–27 budget raised the total tax incidence on 1200–1600cc petrol and diesel cars from 132.36 percent to 155.88 percent, but left the other vehicle categories unchanged. The V8 bands did not get worse this year. They were already at the ceiling.
The Five Toyota and Lexus V8s That Actually Qualify
Right-hand drive, built 2022 or later, and genuinely obtainable through Japanese auction channels or Australian stock. That is the whole list.
| Model | Engine | Build years in window | Notes |
| Lexus LC 500 | 5.0L 2UR-GSE V8, 471 hp | 2022–2026 | The exotic. Last naturally aspirated Lexus V8; production ends August 2026 |
| Lexus RC F | 5.0L 2UR-GSE V8, 472 hp | 2022–2025 | The muscle coupe. Ended November 2025, Final Edition capped at 200 units |
| Toyota Century | 5.0L 2UR-FSE V8 hybrid | 2022–2026 | JDM-only chauffeur flagship. Rarely released to export auction |
| Lexus LX 570 | 5.7L 3UR-FE V8, 362 hp | 2022 only | Final run before the LX 600 V6. Genuinely scarce in-window |
| Land Cruiser 70 Series | 4.5L 1VD-FTV V8 turbo-diesel | 2022–2024 | Australian-market. Utilitarian, not luxurious |
A note on realism. The LC 500 and RC F are findable — they appear at Japanese auction with reasonable regularity. The Century is not; Toyota sells it through an invitation-led domestic channel and units seldom reach open export auction. The in-window LX 570 is a narrow final-model-year sliver. Treat the last three as "possible with patience," not "available on request."
The one everyone asks about
The Land Cruiser 300 has no V8. Toyota replaced it with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 producing more power and more torque than the outgoing 5.7. If your goal is a current Land Cruiser, the V8 question is already settled — and at 3444cc it still lands in the 500 percent band anyway.
What One Actually Costs, Landed
Take a 2023 Lexus RC F with a CIF value assessed at around USD 45,000. At roughly Tk 122 to the dollar, that is about Tk 54,90,000 before a single tax is applied.
| Line | Approximate BDT |
| CIF value | 54,90,000 |
| Duties and taxes at ~800% | 4,39,20,000 |
| Port, C&F, BRTA registration | 8,00,000 – 12,00,000 |
| Landed, registered, on the road | ~Tk 5.0 crore |
Illustrative only. NBR assesses value independently of your invoice, and the figure it lands on drives everything downstream.
That is the number that ends most V8 conversations, and it should be stated plainly rather than buried. A car with a Tk 55 lakh CIF value becomes a Tk 5 crore car at your gate. The tax is roughly nine times the vehicle.
What It Costs to Keep
The landed cost is the one-time shock. Running costs are the recurring one.
Fuel. Octane has held at Tk 145 per litre since 1 June 2026. A 5.0-litre V8 in Dhaka traffic will realistically return 5 to 7 km per litre. At 15,000 km a year and 6 km/L, that is Tk 3,62,500 annually. A Toyota Prius covering the same distance costs about Tk 1,08,750. You are spending roughly Tk 2.5 lakh a year extra on fuel alone.
Annual CC tax. A 2500cc vehicle pays around Tk 75,000 a year in engine capacity tax. Above 3000cc the figure climbs substantially, and the environmental surcharge applies if this is a second or third car in the household. Our guide to engine CC tax in Bangladesh breaks the bands down properly.
Tyres. An LC 500 runs 245/40R21 front and 275/35R21 rear. That is a special order in Dhaka, at import prices, roughly every 20,000 km.
The Dhaka Problems Nobody Puts in the Brochure
Ground clearance. The LC 500 sits at about 115mm and the RC F is not much higher. Dhaka's speed bumps are unregulated in height and frequently unmarked. Front-lip damage is not a risk here; it is a certainty, and on these cars the bumper assembly is a five-figure taka repair in the best case.
Waterlogging. Monsoon flooding on Dhaka arterials routinely exceeds what a low-slung coupe can wade. A hydrolocked 2UR-GSE is a rebuild, not a repair.
Service access. There is no Lexus F-division dealer support in Bangladesh. You are relying on independent workshops, and while Dhaka has genuinely capable ones, a 471-horsepower naturally aspirated V8 with direct and port injection is not a Corolla. Diagnostic tooling and trained hands both get thin at this end of the market.
Resale. The buyer pool for a Tk 5 crore coupe in Bangladesh is measured in dozens, not thousands. Expect to hold the car, and expect a slow sale when you do move it.
Who This Actually Makes Sense For
It makes sense if: you are a collector who wants the last naturally aspirated Lexus V8 before the window shuts permanently in August 2026, you have covered parking, you accept the running costs as the price of the thing, and the resale question is genuinely irrelevant to you. That buyer exists, and for them the LC 500 is a defensible purchase.
It does not make sense if: you want presence, comfort and a strong badge. You are paying a 500 percent duty premium for cylinders you cannot use on a road network averaging 6.4 km/h. Every practical benefit you are after is available under 3000cc at a fraction of the tax.
The Smarter Route to the Same Thing
If what you actually want is a large, imposing, well-built Toyota or Lexus, the engine capacity bands reward you enormously for staying under 3000cc:
- Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250 — 2.8L turbo-diesel, full Land Cruiser presence, one duty band down
- Toyota Alphard 2.5 Hybrid — more rear-seat luxury than almost any V8 sedan, in the lowest hybrid bands
- Toyota Harrier / Lexus RX 350h — premium SUVs at sane running costs
- Toyota Land Cruiser 300 — if you want the real thing, the V6 outperforms the V8 it replaced
Dropping from 5.0L to 2.8L does not halve your tax bill. It cuts it by a factor of several. That is the single highest-leverage decision available to a Bangladeshi car buyer, and it is worth sitting with before you commit to eight cylinders.
How Carbarn Bangladesh Can Help
We source directly from Japanese auction channels, and we will tell you honestly whether a specific V8 is realistically obtainable in-window before you place a deposit — including when the answer is no. Every vehicle we ship is JEVIC-inspected before departure with verified odometer readings, auction grades and full inspection reports. You can browse current stock, or read our import rules and regulations and buying guide for the full process. Shipping from Japan to Chattogram or Mongla runs 20–25 days, with vessels departing weekly. Before you budget for anything in the above-4000cc band, talk to our Dhaka team and get a written landed-cost estimate. On a V8, the difference between an estimate and a guess is measured in crore.
